Our regular weekend routine has been disturbed off and on for quite a while as we participate with an unusually dense distribution of organized rides. This weekend we get the chance to continue that disturbance with the Armadillo Classic (https://bikeaustin.org/events/armadillo/). This is a very important fundraiser for Bike Austin — the folks that work hard to improve cycling access and safety for all of us. They have a wide range of distance options so those that don’t have enough time for 103 miles can simply choose the 68 (or 51, or 39, for example :-). Registration is only $45 so long as you do it before Saturday. I hope everyone registers! This will take the place of our Saturday ride this week.
Sunday is our usual Coffee Shop ride to Red Horn. It is 50 miles and is at an endurance pace typically finishing around a 17mph average speed overall. While we make great efforts to keep the group together, this is NOT a no drop ride. If you cannot hang with the group after repeated regrouping, you may get dropped. Red Horn is 20 miles away and is where we stop for coffee, breakfast tacos, pastries, and socializing before finishing the rest of the ride. The route can be found here: https://www.strava.com/routes/4736117 . Ride leaves from Cups & Cones at 7:30am.
Note: I have a cool new route ready for next weekend (thanks Max!). This takes us southeast of Austin to some new roads (part of the famous Tuesday Nighter created in the 1970s, the legendary John Howard).
See you soon!
