This weekend’s rides: Armadillo Classic! Red Horn!

Our regular weekend routine has been disturbed off and on for quite a while as we participate with an unusually dense distribution of organized rides. This weekend we get the chance to continue that disturbance with the Armadillo Classic (https://bikeaustin.org/events/armadillo/). This is a very important fundraiser for Bike Austin — the folks that work hard to improve cycling access and safety for all of us. They have a wide range of distance options so those that don’t have enough time for 103 miles can simply choose the 68 (or 51, or 39, for example :-). Registration is only $45 so long as you do it before Saturday. I hope everyone registers! This will take the place of our Saturday ride this week.

Sunday is our usual Coffee Shop ride to Red Horn. It is 50 miles and is at an endurance pace typically finishing around a 17mph average speed overall. While we make great efforts to keep the group together, this is NOT a no drop ride. If you cannot hang with the group after repeated regrouping, you may get dropped. Red Horn is 20 miles away and is where we stop for coffee, breakfast tacos, pastries, and socializing before finishing the rest of the ride. The route can be found here: https://www.strava.com/routes/4736117 . Ride leaves from Cups & Cones at 7:30am.

Note: I have a cool new route ready for next weekend (thanks Max!). This takes us southeast of Austin to some new roads (part of the famous Tuesday Nighter created in the 1970s, the legendary John Howard).

See you soon!

This weekend’s rides: Tour das Hugel Recon (@Nelo’s)! Red Horn!

NOTE: remember to save the date and RSVP to our upcoming party on November 6! RSVP here: http://evite.me/ZKFEx1QdWV

Saturday SRC is co-hosting a recon/training ride for the upcoming Tour das Hugel. You don’t have to be doing the actual TdH to do this ride, so come regardless. The ride has been advertised to several ride groups around Austin and will hopefully have a respectable turnout. The route is only about 50 miles (https://www.strava.com/routes/6755415) which will visit some of the highlights of the TdH in a friendly format (likely several different groups that will regroup at the top of the hills). NOTE: this ride starts at Nelo’s at 8am (wheels down). After the ride we can grab some pizza at Mangias next to Nelo’s.
