The Saturday’s ride was fun and we started with about 16 riders. As usual there was a fast group that went out to Crystal Falls Golf Course and there was a group that split off at the top of Lime Creek and headed back to Steiner Ranch and I brought up the rear and picked up a rider that flatted out. Overall a great a great ride but a lot shorter than our normal Saturday ride.
The Sunday ride headed out to Ski Shores and there were 11 riders and Thomas Lea led the group. The entire group stayed together the entire time and I heard everyone had fun. Thanks Thomas.
JESTER KING BREWERY RIDE Please mark your calendar for August 17, 2013 for a FREE 55 mile ride that will start and finish at the Jester King Brewery. The ride will begin at 7:30am and it will be an out and back from Jester King on Fitzhugh Road to Johnson City and back. It is a low traffic road. One of our very own riders, Dustin Dunnams brother in law owns the brewery. To get directions to Jester King or learn more about the brewery please visit www.jesterkingbrewery.com
The expected route for the bike ride is as follows: http://goo.gl/maps/0nGRD
We expect to have SAG support by www.cyclingswami.com that will provide mechanical support, rides and fluids. Please bring your favorite drink for the cooler. We are seeking a corporate sponsor for the SAG but if not we will have a donation jar available so everyone can kick in a few bones or whatever they want. You should also bring some money for beer and pizza after the ride. Please drink responsibly.
This ride will be for intermediate and advanced riders. So you will need to be able to maintain an average pace of 14-15 mph over the 55 miles at a minimum and some of our faster riders will be closer to 20 mph average. There will be over 4,000 feet of climbing too so please take that into consideration. Please feel free to invite your friends and all are welcomed.
NEXT WEEKENDS RIDES
SCIENIC LOOP – Saturday August 10th at 7:30am at Cups & Cones
This Saturday the Steiner Ranch Cycling Club we will be doing the Scenic Loop. The ride is about 56 miles round trip to and from Cups & Cones. We can make it a little longer and add some elevation by dropping down into Cuernavaca on the way back.
We have been able to keep the group together until we get downtown and then on the way back the group typically starts to break apart due to speed and hills. The faster group will average about 18-20 mph on this ride and I’ll bring up the rear and I’ll average about 16+mph. That being said there is no designated sweeper behind me so you need to keep up with me at a minimum.
There will be about 3,600 feet of climbing and you can add about another 500 feet by adding the Cuernavaca loop on the way back. The route basically takes us down 620 to Anderson Mill to Spicewood to Jollyville to Mesa to Mt. Bonnell through Tarrytown on Scenic into downtown. We will take a fluid break at Mellow Johnny’s and head back to Steiner Ranch via Barton Springs through some backroads to 360 to Bee Caves (option drop into Cuernavaca) to 620 over Mansfield dam back to Steiner Ranch.
Please print out the below route and I’ll try to remember to bring a few extra cue sheets too.
