Below is a recap by our Cycling Dynamo Thomas Lea:
“Saturday was the Real Ale ride which most of us did. A few stuck it out for the full 78 mile route (advertised as 80 or 85 miles depending on the sign), but another group was nice enough to accompany a teammate who was riding with a hangover which sucked and understood that it was best to get back to the brewery ASAP to try the soothing effects of the Hair of the Dog treatment. The ride was challenging as always with over 4000 feet of climbing. Dustin Dinh took a spill when his cleat popped out on a descent and bloody lower arm road rash was on display. Stuart nearly suffered the same fate in an epic sprint with me, but managed to stay upright only suffering a humiliating defeat and a bump on the shin. Stuart went on to punish me for the rest of the ride. Roughly 6 of us stayed together for the 65 mile ride. Extra kudos to Justin, Dan, and Dustin Dinh for doing the whole 78 miles on those awful roads. We hope your asses have recovered.”
“Sunday was the Jack and Adam’s Steiner Ranch Steakhouse Ride. It was pretty standard with the exception of a decently brutal headwind on the way back. I understand that Andrew killed the climb at the turnaround point (no surprise). The only disappointment was that the Steakhouse was not expecting riders and so there was no brunch discount this time. The overall turnout was strangely low.”
Please mark your calendar for June 7th as we will be doing the Jester King Brewery ride again. It is going to be a lot of fun and it is an all Clubs ride so we hope to have all Clubs in Austin in attendance. Last year we had well over 100 riders.
NEXT WEEKENDS RIDES
AVERY RANCH OR AVERY RANCH + BAT CITY RIDE – Saturday May 24th at7:30am at Cups & Cones
On Saturday the Steiner Ranch Cycling Group will be heading out for an approximately 55+ mile bike ride or a 76+ mile ride depending on which route you choose. You will have the option to ride out together and then turn back or continue on and really get some miles on.
The standard AVERY RANCH ride is going to be fairly flat and fast. But we deserve flat after Steiner Ranch 6,000 and Real Ale Ride back to back. Again, we do our best to keep the group together but you will need to have a certain level of riding experience and conditioning to stay with the main group or else you may get left behind. There is no designated sweeper for our Saturday ride.
The two routes are as follows:
